Short run print firm 'turning to digital'

A short run printing company operating in the south-west of England has been increasingly turning its attention to digital technologies.
The Short Run Press firm has invested in a range of technologies from Oce that are aimed at enhancing the quality of services the company can provide and the speed at which they can be delivered.
According to a report from Print Week, digital printing accounted for only around five per cent of the company's business activities in 2005 but by now more than one-third of their work is carried out in this fashion.
"We're getting requests from publishers wanting 100-200 copies when they previously would have wanted 400-500," explained Mark Couch, marketing and sales director at Short Run Press.
"The new Oces will help us produce more short- run work and free up the litho machines for the longer-run work."
Meanwhile, Hewlett-Packard, the world's largest printing firm, recently revealed that it had received record orders for its digital printing solutions at the Drupa industry showcase in Germany.
